The Process

FROM IDEA TO
INSTALLATION

A proven engineering workflow — built for precision, adapted for complexity.

Westlind process — CAD to fabrication transformation

Every project at Westlind follows a unified system —from initial concept through to final installation.

No handoffs · No disconnect · Engineered continuity

The System

Five stages
One workflow

  1. 01
    Stage 01

    Consult

We start by understanding the problem — not proposing a solution. Site visits, technical briefings and constraint mapping ensure every project begins with clarity.

    • Site surveys & access reviews
    • Client briefings & technical discovery
    • Working from drawings or real-world measurement
  2. 02
    Stage 02

    Design

Concepts developed in SolidWorks and Fusion 360, bringing ideas into precise, build-ready systems. Clients see the solution before it exists.

    • 3D visualisation & client renders
    • Identifying constraints & limitations early
    • Iteration to approval before fabrication
  3. 03
    Stage 03

    Engineer

Every component is engineered for performance, efficiency and real-world installation. We optimise for strength, weight and usability — not just function.

    • Material selection (steel, aluminium, stainless)
    • Laser cutting & forming strategy
    • Cost-efficient design without compromise
  4. 04
    Stage 04

    Fabricate

Built entirely in-house using precision fabrication, CNC machining and welding. Every part manufactured to exact specification under one roof.

    • MIG / TIG welding · EN1090 EXC2
    • CNC machining · Mazak VCS 530C
    • Powder coating, plating & finishing
  5. 05
    Stage 05

    Deliver

Delivered, installed and supported — anywhere in the UK or Europe. We stay involved through installation to ensure everything performs exactly as intended.

    • On-site installation support
    • Managed transport across UK & Europe
    • Commissioning & ongoing client support

Built for Reality

Engineering doesn't happen
in ideal conditions

We design for real-world constraints — tight tolerances, limited space, complex existing structures and demanding timelines. The workflow adapts to the project, not the other way around.

Tight-space mechanisms
Live-environment installs
Compressed delivery windows
Existing-structure integration
The Difference

Most companies manufacture
We solve

From automated LED systems to structural frameworks and complex installations — every project is approached as a complete engineering challenge, not a list of parts.

01

Multi-axis movement systems

Linear actuators, ball screws, stepper motor control — engineered for precision motion in production environments.

02

Complex environments

Live corporate spaces, transport hubs and existing architectural structures — engineered without disruption.

03

Rapid production under pressure

Compressed timelines for large-scale fabrication — managed through in-house capacity, not subcontracting.

04

Bespoke + repeat capability

From one-off prototypes to repeat production runs — the same system handles both with the same precision.

Engineered Outcomes
  • Large-scale LED infrastructure delivered under compressed timelines

  • Complex mechanical systems designed from first principles

  • Structural frameworks integrated into existing environments

  • Precision components manufactured to micron-level accuracy
